Armin hasn't been terribly social recently - with both Eren and Sansa gone, he's been withdrawing further and further within himself, spending less time with his friends, and putting everything he has into work. It all comes to a head a couple days before Christmas, when he realizes how lonely he's become. And, too, he realizes that Anna is probably feeling the same way. Not only has he not seen her in weeks - more than his own isolation can account for - but he remembers that her sister vanished not long ago. Though he's still rather miserable, he tells himself that he can't hide forever. Seeing a friend outside the mansion will be good for him. And, more importantly, it will do her good as well. So Armin finds himself ringing her doorbell on Christmas Eve, holding a large present, and hoping she doesn't spot the cleverly concealed airholes and ruin the surprise.
technically still a copypaste, just with more thoughts.
Christmas Eve always comes a few days after Elsa's birthday, the Winter Solstice, and then tomorrow it'd be Christmas. They are days, that Anna should be spending together with her sister and of course Anna back home in Arendelle is spending them with Elsa and everyone else, who are there...
Now? Anna is stuck in Genessia and Elsa isn't here anymore. That's okay, usually, because Anna is amazing at keeping herself busy with other things to think / do most of the time! She has over a decade's experience of that from the time when Elsa wouldn't let her anywhere near her life after all... But she has lost count of how often she's alone these days or this week, because having those two days so near each other just makes her realize, that she is feeling lonely. It should be an easy thing to fix, really, but with the whole Christmas thing coming up she figures most people most likely have somewhere or someone to go to. Anna? Sure, she might have an idea but she stays home alone because she doesn't want to disturb anyone.
So when her doorbell rings, Anna's eyes fly wide open and it takes her a very tiny little moment to remember that she should open the door! She jumps up and braids half of her hair on the way there. It doesn't even cross her mind, that she should check who's there before she opens... Not like it's a problem this time, but maybe she should start doing that.
The confusion fades into a wide, maybe a little surprised, smile as soon as Anna sees him there. No worries, Armin, the details of the (other) present go completely unnoticed by her. She doesn't even expect it to be for her.
"Armin!" Anna almost regrets that her hair looks weird because half of it isn't braided at all. Maybe her excited looking eyes can make up for it. "I--" She's just totally surprised as she had not been expecting to see him here. Anna steps aside, opening the door even more. "Come on in!"
...That should probably have been something like super polite Would you like to come in if you're not busy right now and if Armin doesn't mind spending a little while with her on a day like this?? or anything like that. But she is seriously way too excited to see him and always inviting people in anyway to consider her words that much.
So, whatever. He could tell her that he is here just for one thing and then leave, it wouldn't even be the first time when she'd get doors on her face but for now? Anna swings the door open, steps aside to make way for him.
"Hey, Anna." He gives her a quiet little smile. "Thank you. I, I hope I'm not intruding?"
He notices the half-braided hair, but he doesn't say anything - after all, he's the one who's showing up unannounced, and he wouldn't have been bothered by it anyway. He accepts her invitation, stepping carefully into the apartment.
He looks at her a little uncertainly - but the apparent lack of anybody else in the house would seem to support his theory. Still, it's good to be sure. "Are you... doing anything for Christmas Eve this year?"
"Hey." There is a warm smile back at him before Anna blinks. It takes a moment from her before she manages to speak. "No no, there is absolutely nothing here that you would be intruding. At all. Just me, myself and I if it sounded like I was busy chatting with someone..."
That sounds so very healthy and really, Anna is not even sure whether or not she keeps talking to herself sometimes without even realizing it. 13 years alone, everyone with a rambling personality like hers could try what it does to them. Though no, she has been mostly quiet and alone in this apartment. At least there are some lights on, so it is not like she has been sitting in the dark alone... Hopefully. She could have put all of them on on her way to the door. But nope, no one else here if Armin is checking to see whether or not her sister is there too.
Anna looks at him back with an uncertain look too. What? She doesn't even care to hope that he will stay. Not that she wouldn't love just a short visit, that would be great, but she definitely enjoys spending... a lot of time with Armin. So while he is in her apartment now? Anna closes the door.
She looks much more unsure after hearing that question. "Um, I ...am not sure? I don't have anything planned, so I guess I am going to do anything that comes to mind?? So far it has been staying home and considering the option of going out for a walk sooner or later if I feel like it..."
Maybe she can do those things with the cutest boy ever now when he is with her here if she is lucky? She can always dream of that at least.
He blinks a little at her rambling, a little nonplussed, not sure where that's coming from - though at the same time, he'd be lying if he said he didn't find it at least a little cute.
"W-well, if you don't have any plans..." He takes a deep breath. "Would you l-like to spend it with me, then?" There, he said it. It leaves him vulnerable and open to rejection, but at least he tried. He can't regret that, now, no matter what happens.
Armin has a lot of conflicting feelings about the whole date auction, and how it turned out. It's not something he'd ever have put himself in for, and the only reason he didn't back out is that it was for charity. Even so, he feels awkward about it - and he's still not sure how he feels about dating in the first place. It may have been a while since Sansa vanished, but it's not like she's dead. She could appear again at any time. The uncertainty, whether or not he'll ever see her again, is what's holding him back. It's preventing him from getting closure, from moving on.
Making the whole thing more confusing and complicated is just how much was spent on this date. 8,000 bills - it may not be much to him anymore, but for most of his life it's more money than he could even imagine. To spend it so frivolously is nearly inconceivable. He's embarrassed that anybody would spend that much on him, and worried about how he could possibly live up to an 8,000 bill date.
All the same, of everyone who bid, he's glad it was Anna who won.
He waits nervously for her at their agreed meeting place, having arrived ten minutes early, dressed resplendently - and uncomfortably - in a tailored suit. He's still not used to wearing this sort of thing - although he's much more used to it after working for Weiss so long.
Anna is running. She's not running because she's late or because she'd be late if she didn't rush there to meet him, but simply because this is one extremely excited princess. And when does Anna ever just walk anywhere even though she's wearing a dress right now too.
She's half-expecting Mikasa to be in front of her anywhere along her way. Really. She's not sure why; must be her mind playing with her wild imagination after the auction, where she kept thinking that if Mikasa had raised it one more time, she -- may have taken that as a sign of her not wanting Anna around and given up. That's depressing.
You know what's not depressing?! The moment when Anna arrives to their meeting place and sees Armin. Wow. She's not expecting the suit at all. Sure, she's in a dress but that's just normal for her back home at least. She looks even more excited if that's even possible, also her eyes shine like stars
...And Anna being Anna instead of someone with calm nature and manners, rushes to the young man and gives him a hug.
Armin blinks, taken off guard at nearly being tackled by a sudden hug - but after a moment, he returns it gladly.
"H-hey, Anna!" He's a little nervous and uncertain, but even apart from the date he is genuinely glad to see her. "You look really nice. U-um..."
The hug ends, and when he pulls back he smiles at her hesitantly - and presents her with a bouquet of a dozen beautiful tiger lilies. "H-happy Valentine's Day!"
At least it's not one of those days where she literally tackles him with a hug because Armin is most likely going to have a lot of those coming to him too. Anna melts a little when he returns it, hoping for a moment that this would be a hug that never ends. But that wouldn't be so good for their date day, would it?
"Hello, Armin." To say that Anna is excited would be a huge understatement. She is ecstatic, on top of the world, eyes beaming like they could light up the sky just like stars. She blushes at his compliment with a sheepish smile on her face. "Thanks. You look really great and just like a prince all the time..."
She gives Armin a look when he seems so uncertain and hesitant. Not that it's totally new but it almost feels like something is off here. Should she... Apologize for not being Mikasa? Did he want a date with Mikasa instead after all? Is it disappointing when it is Anna and not her??
The flowers are a very good distraction right now as Anna forgets all about those thoughts for the moment. "Wow, for me? Really? No one has ever..." It's her first time ever getting flowers in a situation like this from a boy, who she is seriously falling for. What do? She takes them, beaming at him now with a smile too. "Thank you, Armin, Happy Valentine's Day to you too."
She is almost tempted to give a kiss to his cheek but... Anna stops herself from doing that, leans the bouquet on one arm and reaches out for his hand with her free one while she is already looking around excitedly and trying to decide what to do next.
